Optum HouseCalls is a program designed to provide comprehensive care visits annually for Seniors and select other at-risk populations in their Home. In 2022 the program is estimated to provide 2.2M visits. With continued growth and clinical model evolution we are looking to add a new Senior National Medical Director to the team. This role will oversee and guide the clinical model, help define the vision for quality performance and serve as a clinical expert for both our internal and external relationships that are imperative to ensure continued clinical success of the program. In addition to day-to-day support needs, the increasing demands brought on by COVID-19 and advocacy work have highlighted the need for a dedicated resource.

Primary Responsibilities:

Clinical Model Support:

  • Support clinical strategy, efficacy, and effectiveness of HouseCalls
  • Support and enhance end to end referral program, both internally and with our partner programs
  • Lead the ongoing HouseCalls research studies in partnership with dedicated research teams to evolve the model and demonstrate its effectiveness
  • Provide COVID-19 guidance and best practice
  • Provide oversight, recommendations and execute on eHouseCalls (EMR) documentation improvements in partnership with others
  • Provide oversight of CLIA waivers
  • Provide support and review all policies and procedures
  • Lead all regulatory change implementation and review
  • Update standards of care and protocols associated with each
  • Provide product and model development support
  • Participate in client facing sales and joint operating committees


  • Perform individual quality of care case reviews
  • Review and guide quality of care and peer review procedures
  • Oversee programs such as MA Stars initiatives and credentialing


  • Lead relationships with collaborating physicians and helping recruit and interview new collaborating physicians
  • Outreach to community physicians to address program questions
  • Provider oversight to Peer Review meetings
  • Create and implement engagement strategies with providers, patients/members and health plans
  • Lead the implementation of new clients
  • Provide ongoing support of relationship with health plans
  • Provide ongoing vendor support

Required Qualifications:        

  • MD/DO with an active license in any state     
  • 10+ years of medical leadership experience
  • 5+ years of medical practice experience
  • 3+ years of serving as a collaborative physician with Advanced Practice Clinicians
  • Willingness to travel >50% of the time
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary/hourly range for Colorado residents is $293,200 to $324,800. The salary/hourly range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $293,200 to $324,800. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
