Overview: The Senior Information Systems Technician is within the IT Unit. This person will provide complex and advanced technical support in managing, ensuring availability, implementing, and documenting the district's server, network, storage, email, disaster recovery software, and other core services. They will assist with determining hardware and software systems requirements and specifications. They will be expected to multitask, have proven analytical/problem-solving skills, and complete a variety of complex technical tasks relative to their assigned area of responsibility. Strong knowledge of LAN, WAN, and System Administration including but not limited to VLAN's, VPN's, firewalls, routers, switches, servers, virtualization, and storage. In addition to having an extensive knowledge of various technologies this position must be an effective team player with IT and non-IT Staff and is expected to have excellent verbal and written communication.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Enterprise Email, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, PKI, Server Hardware Support including blade, hyper-converged, and standalone servers (300+ Servers), OS Support (Windows, Linux), develop and utilize PowerShell Scripts (including exchange/azure), and support over 750 Tb of NAS/SAN .
  • Maintain, Document and Support the entire District networking infrastructure including but not limited to over 100 switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers. This includes all remote sites connected via T1, ASE, Fiber, and Microwave Equipment. Monitor network and security appliances for issues and security breaches, updating firmware, maintaining security patches, keeping security policies up to date, updating data paths to maintain network efficiency Cyber Security, Including IT Security Applications to monitor and maintain security on infrastructure systems. Example: Microsoft security patching, vulnerability assessment, updating anti-virus definitions, monitoring email spam filter, and monitoring for attempted or successful security breaches.
  • Write and maintain documentation as it relates to networks, servers, security and how to's. New account creation including Exchange and Active Directory, account terminations, maintain NTFS permissions on folders, Security group management and Distribution lists. Escalation support for Helpdesk and Desktop Teams. Respond to user generated helpdesk tickets daily.
  • Implement, configure and administer Windows servers, Active Directory, DNS, RAIDs, Radius, print servers, windows updates servers, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, and powershell based management.
  • Implement, configure and administer Network Based Storage Systems.
  • Implement, configure, and administer virtualized infrastructure.
  • Implement, configure, and administer network firewalls, routers, and switches.
  • Configure and administer Microsoft O365 Exchange online, Azure AD, Microsoft O365, Sharepoint online, and One Drive.
  • Configure and administer cloud backup/disaster recovery infrastructure.
  • Configure and administer backup technologies such as snapshots and data recovery.
  • Work with vendors to support and administer applications and systems.
  • Requires 24X7 support for network services, productions systems, emails, and network infrastructure.
  • Implement, configure, and administer cybersecurity vulnerability scanners and perform remediation tasks
  • Implement, configure, and administer cybersecurity best practices, policies and procedures
  • Perform scheduled service updates and patches to servers and networking equipment.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and support LAN/WAN including wireless infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient day-to-day network operations.
  • Implement, configure, and manage switches, firewalls, routers, and wireless devices.
  • Document and maintain detail network diagrams for all enterprise LAN and WAN.
  • Implement and manage corporate remote access Solutions.
  • Provide support for mobile devices, including iPhone, iPad and other android devices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including robust analytical skill with a focus on preventative actions.
  • Collaborate with business owners to determine requirements for new systems and deliver solutions that best meet the business needs.
  • Provide end-users helpdesk support as needed including but not limited to computer hardware/software issues, email, application, and printing issues.
  • Provide escalation helpdesk support.
  • Maintain hardware, software, and licensing inventory.
  • Comply with company IT policies, procedures, and change controls.

Ideal Experience:

  • 5 or more years of senior system administration and/or network administration experience in supporting, configuring, and managing enterprise grade infrastructure.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving Ability.
  • Ability to prioritize and take responsibility to resolve problems efficiently and manage multiple projects in a high-pressure environment.

Ideal Knowledge:

  • Solid technical knowledge with Palo Alto Network equipment, VMware, NetApp, Cisco, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft AD, Microsoft Servers, and network security products.
  • Solid technical knowledge of Powershell for Azure, Exchange, and Active Directory
  • Principles and practices of Network Administration.
  • Principles and practices of System Administration.
  • Principles and practices of Cyber Security.
  • English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Recent and on-going Networking, Systems Administration and Cyber Security related developments, including information technology, current literature, and sources of information related to the operations of assigned area of responsibility.

Ideal Training and Education:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems or a related field.
  • Candidates with current certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, VOIP system are preferred.

Substitution: Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.
