Provides immunization services to Lowcountry population at health departments and community events to support outbreak and routine immunizations. Provides culturally competent nursing services, patient education and counseling for individuals in public health clinics and in the community. Provides practical nursing care per agency policies/procedures, standing medical orders, and patient specific medical orders.

COVID-19 and/or MPX Vaccination Clinics:

Assists with planning, site set-up and site tear-down of vaccination events in the health department setting and at mass community clinics.

Reviews immunization status, administers COVID and/or MPX vaccines per standing orders.

Discusses significant findings or observations with appropriate registered nurse and documents accordingly.

Works in conjunction with the registered nurse to monitor complex clients.

Provides follow-up care in the clinic or community setting under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Orders, stores and processes vaccine in accordance with DHEC policy and procedures.

Documents care provided in accordance with agency policy/procedure.

Provides follow-up care as needed in the clinic or community setting.

Participates in team conferences and continuing education. Conducts immunization-related community outreach and education.

Provides testing services to Lowcountry population as needed.

Community Testing:

Collects specimens to identify cases in the community in an effort to stop transmission virus in high risk/hot spot areas with in the Lowcountry region.

Assists with vaccination and testing logistics as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Some positions require a valid driver's license. Also, some positions require certification in Basic Life Support and/or Basic/Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements:Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related experience. Licensed as an BSN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

Knowledge and skills of practical nursing procedures. Knowledge of public health policies and procedures for appropriate program areas. Ability to make accurate technical and physical observations of patients and to document findings. Ability to follow the plan of care established by the RN and to report appropriate findings. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to function as a team member. Ability to perform health teaching. Ability to recognize and report significant findings or observations to RN.

Current driver's license; may be required to use personal vehicle; CPR certification within the first six months and then as required. Must be able to pass a fit-test for and use appropriate respiratory protective equipment. Must be able to lift (30) pounds and stand for long periods. Travel required within the operational area.

All new employees who are healthcare providers will be required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, varicella and hepatitis B prior to beginning employment. Our Public Health Workforce Protection Policy required healthcare staff with job-specific exposure risk to be fully vaccinated or alternatively, tested for COVID-19 on a weekly basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Immunization administration and vaccine storage and handling experience.

Additional Comments

Immunization: All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Pertussis,Varicella,and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

Public Health staff with job-specific risk of COVID-19 exposure who choose not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine or provide documentation of prior vaccination, or who are unable to be vaccinated due to medical contraindications or religious exemption, will be required to receive routine periodic COVID-19 testing by DHEC. Vaccinated employees will not be required to receive periodic testing but may elect to be tested to monitor their health status.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather,DHECemployees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
