Duties and Responsibilities

The technician will work with Dr. Sara Lipshutz to carry out research on the evolution of behavior in birds using techniques in neuroendocrinology and genomics. Duties will include primarily laboratory work but may also include some fieldwork. The technician will assist with DNA / RNA isolation, qPCR, hormone extraction, and enzyme immunoassay, as well as data management and analysis. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment, ensuring the lab is compliant with relevant university policies and permitting authorities, and helping to supervise undergraduate researchers working in the laboratory.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Education Required: Bachelors Degree in biology or a related field. Preferred: Masters Degree.

Experience Required: 1-2 years of previous research experience in neuroscience, molecular biology, or cell biology.

Applicants must have a bachelors degree in biology or a related field. Applicants with prior experience in molecular biology and data management are especially encouraged to apply.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, intellectual curiosity, and some research experience. Useful skills include: experience using Excel, R, and/or Unix command line interface, field ornithology, basic molecular biology, and developing/troubleshooting molecular protocols. Requisite training will be provided.
