Purpose of Position/Summary:
The purpose of this infection prevention COVID IP field position is to assist with providing infection prevention and control education and guidance to healthcare facilities in long term care (LTC), assisted living (AL) and congregate care settings as assigned, regarding infection control.
Infection control guidance shall include; rapid assessment for COVID -19 new infection cohorting, providing direction for transmission based precautions, environmental cleaning, assessing hand hygiene program, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) proper use by auditing donning and doffing practices, and provide resources for assuring facilities are using Client, Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) latest guidance for this COVID 19 outbreak.
This position will perform tele- ICARs and onsite assessments in designated regions, facilitating strike team infection control guidance, long-term care facilities, home care, assisted living and memory care facilities to identify best practices and gaps within the facility for infection control practice and improvement.
The incumbent will provide assistance during this COVID-19 outbreak on other Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) outbreaks, cluster investigations, or as requested in assigned region.
Conducts onsite infection control program assessments in congregate care settings; including long-term care facilities, assisted living, memory care and other congregate facilities as directed.
Provide recommendations for training and technical assistance based on opportunities for improvement identified during onsite assessments.
Work with the client Strike team response team to advise and perform infection control assessments during outbreak and cluster situations within facilities by reaching out to DONs, ADON, Administrators and Infection Preventionist (IP) in these affected facilities.
Identify gaps in infection control practices and procedures.
Disseminate results of infection control assessments and enter data into shared team drive.
Follow up with facilities after assessments to ensure recommendations are implemented.
Provides education to healthcare facilities regarding infection prevention and control.
Serves as the subject matter expert for general infection prevention and control practices.
Assist the Client LTC Strike team in conducting facility assessments in high-acuity post-acute facilities for the containment of COVID 19.
Partner with the Client Regulatory Division to provide infection control guidance as directed by following up with regulatory tags.
Assists with the coordination and timely completion for webinars and communication to LTC for COVID 19 updates.
Share links to guidelines and on-line resources that can be used to mitigate identified gaps.
Perform other duties as required to support HAI prevention in these LTC, AL, and congregate settings.
Hold an academic degree appropriate to the scope of work, BSN, MSN, MPH, or MS. Minimum of three years clinical infection control experience in a healthcare setting required.
Certified in infection control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) preferred
BSN with ability to maintain RN licensure preferred.
Have successfully participated in hospital based IPC programs and/or research to reduce HAIs in targeted settings (dialysis, long-term care, outpatient, long-term acute care hospitals and acute care).
Ability to think critically about public health problems and develop collaborative solutions.
Broad knowledge of principles and practices of public health infectious diseases, especially those applicable to the identification and control of infectious diseases.
Broad knowledge of Infection Prevention in congregate care settings.
Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with both internal and external public health partners, and facility directors and administrators.
Advanced organizational and teamwork skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently
Ability to work independently and use strong judgments based on existing knowledge
Broad knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations and policies relating to communicable diseases.
Advanced ability to provide technical assistance to medical practitioners, LTC and AL staff, public health officials, agency staff, businesses and lay individuals.
Ability to coordinate and maintain effective working relationships with various internal and external customers and stakeholders.
Willingness to travel within Indiana, as needed
