The Covid Command Center (CCC) at Indiana University Center for Global Health (CGLH) within the Department of Medicine, develops mutually beneficial partnerships across disciplines, schools, and countries to create and implement sustainable programs that improve health and human flourishing in underserved areas worldwide. Global Health also prepares a health education and health research experts in these communities to become the next generation of local, national, and global health leaders.

Job Summary

The IU Center for Global Health is currently recruiting Contact Tracers to serve IU campuses and surrounding areas. A Contact Tracer interviews, evaluates, and monitors clients, provides education, guidance and isolation/quarantine parameters based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for those individuals who meet case definition for a confirmed, suspect, or probable case of a communicable disease or a contact of someone who meets this definition. May conduct home visits to obtain or verify information. May be involved with contact tracing duties related to quarantine and monitoring contacts. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one year working/volunteering in an organization where there was interaction with the public either in person or via telephone.

Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Plus, the following skills and abilities:

  • Appropriate aptitude and experience (work, educational, and/or volunteer) in public health, medical, social work, or community-based programing.
  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communications skills and ability to work well in a team.
  • Comfort using tablets, computers, headsets and cell phones. Skill in capturing information from case/contact interviews and typing/entering data into assigned database.
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement referral procedures, which may change based on incoming data.
  • Excellent and sensitive interpersonal, cultural competency, and sensitivity appropriate to the local community, and interviewing skills such that they can build and maintain trust with patients and contacts.
  • Resourcefulness in locating patients and contacts who may be difficult to reach or reluctant to engage in conversation.
  • Basic skills of crisis counseling along with understanding of when to refer individuals or situations to medical, social, or supervisory resources.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of course work in an accredited college or university in one of the social or biological sciences, health, or a related field.
  • One year of experience performing outreach work and/or interview/investigation work in a local agency.
  • Experience working with CRM database.
  • Medical and/or public health background.

Working Conditions / Demands

This candidate must be able to work on a computer for several hours a day, and must be able to be on the telephone for extended lengths of time.

Advertised Salary

$15.00 per hour.

Work Hours

Work hours will vary, with shift assignments made on a weekly or biweekly basis. Work will normally be restricted to the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with exceptions allowed for case specific assignments. Work days will vary and may include weekday and weekend assignments.
